Benjamin
R. Cohen, M.D. is a specialist in various
forms of spine surgery and is an expert on cervical
myelopathy.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Cohen received his undergraduate
degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Temple University and
his graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
He received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical
School, where he was honored as the McGraw Hill Book
Company Outstanding Student; AOA, junior selection;
John J. Sheinin Research Award, and Board of Trustees
Scholarship Award.
At the Albany Medical Center Dr. Cohen completed his
General Surgery Internship and served as a Neurological
Surgery Resident. While there he received the House Staff
Scholarly Research Award. Dr. Cohen subsequently completed
his Fellowship in Complex Spinal Surgery at the University
of Alabama.
Dr. Cohen has authored and co-authored numerous manuscripts
and articles published in the fields of neurosurgery
and the spine. He has given many presentations in these
areas as well. His professional memberships include:
American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress
of Neurological Surgeons, Section (AANS/CNS) of Disorders
of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, and the Nassau County
Medical Society (NCMS).
Fully versed in standard laminectomy and fusion techniques,
Dr. Cohen has a special interest in minimally invasive
procedures including kyphoplasty and microdiscectomy
as well as image-guided spine surgery and artificial
disc replacement.
