Gamma
Knife Radiosurgery is a neurosurgical technique for
treating brain diseases with highly focused radiation
beams. It is the most precise form of single-session
brain radiosurgery. It is bloodless. It is highly effective
for brain tumors, both malignant and benign, arteriovenous
malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia (sharp face
pains). Radiosurgery can often be used in place of
standard surgery and radiation. Patients are discharged
the day of surgery.
Dr Michael H. Brisman is
the Neurosurgical Director of The Long Island Gamma Knife
at South Nassau, Long Island’s first
and only Gamma Knife, and the most advanced
Gamma Knife in New York.
