X-STOP®
X-STOP® is a titanium implant that can provide
relief from the pain of spinal stenosis without a traditional
laminectomy. Patients with lumber spinal stenosis (LSS)
can suffer from pain in the low back and legs as a result
of compression of the nerves in the spinal canal. The
pain is classically worse when patients walk, and better
when they stop walking and flex forward. This is because
flexion tends to open up the spinal canal. The X-STOP
is a minimally invasive procedure in which a small metal
implant is placed between the posterior spinous processes
of the affected levels (usually L3/4 or L4/5), and effectively
produces a permanent slight flexion, which in turn can
provide symptom relief.
 Spinal
Stimulation, also known as dorsal column stimulation,
is a minimally invasive technique which can offer pain
relief for patients with intractable pain in the spine
or extremities, particularly pain in the low back and
legs. The stimulator, which is a flexible tiny wire,
is placed percutaneously just under the spinous lamina
in the epidural space, and sends signals up to the brain
which can cancel out sensations of pain.
